The Commendation Medal for Staff Officer Service was established by Presidential Decree on May 15, 1996. It is awarded to Senior Officers in the Hellenic Armed Forces for meritorious service.

The I Class Medal is awarded to Senior Officers who are graduates of the Hellenic Military Academy and who have completed 6 months of service in executive positions.
