History

This medal is considered the highest award conferred within the Republic of Latvia's Ministry of Defence.

The medal is awarded to recognize merit within the growth and strengthening of the National Armed Forces. It is also awarded for merit in educating Latvians on the importance of the Armed Forces and National defence.

The obverse inscription translates to "Medal of Honourary Recognition" and the reverse inscription translates to "Minister of Defence Award".

The medals are numbered.
