The Commemorative Medal of January 13 was established in commemoration of the events in Vilnius on January 13, 1991. It was awarded to Lithuanian citizens and foreigners who participated in the defence of Lithuania and Lithuanian independence from January 1991-September 1991.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "January," and a reverse inscription that translates to "We are and will be." Approximately 3000 were awarded.
