History

The Decoration for the Merit in the Energy Industry was established by the Council of Ministers in 1976. It was awarded to employees of power plants and research institutions, construction workers, and others in the employ of the Ministry of Energy in recognition of innovative research, long service in the energy sector, and the implementation of new technology. It was discontinued following the collapse of the communist regime in 1989, but a similar award was established in the Republic of Poland in 1998.

The I Class Decoration could be awarded 2 years after receiving the II Class Decoration.

The I Class Decoration features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Merit to Energy."
