History

The Decoration for Merit to Financial Services was established by the Council of Ministers in 1975. It was awarded to employees of the Ministry of Finance and others in the financial service industry in recognition of long and meritorious service. Recognised merits included innovation in economic practices, achievements in international financial relations, and service rendered to financial education. It was discontinued following the collapse of the communist regime in 1989, but a similar decoration was established by the Republic of Poland in 2003.

The I Class Decoration features initials that stand for "Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa" (Polish People's Republic) and an additional inscription that translates to "Merit for Finance."
