History

The Decoration for Merit to Polish Geology was established by the Polish People's Republic in 1979. It was awarded to Polish citizens in recognition of outstanding contributions and research to the fields of geology and geophysics. It is presumed to have been discontinued in 1989 following the collapse of the communist regime, as a similar award was established by the Republic of Poland in 1997.

The I Class Decoration features an obverse inscription that translates to "Merit for Polish Geology."
