History

The Decoration for Meritorious Sea Workers was established by the Polish People's Republic in 1955. It was awarded to fishermen, employees of seaports, employees of the merchant marine, and employees of the shipbuilding industry in recognition of meritorious service. This meritorious service included high production, the implementation of safety measures in the workplace, and the fostering of discipline and good attitudes in the workplace. It was discontinued following the collapse of the communist regime in 1989, but a similar badge was established by the Republic of Poland in 1997.

There are two versions of the I Class Decoration that differ in design, but both versions feature an obverse inscription that translates to "Meritorious Sea Worker."
