The Medal for Participation in the Battle of Berlin was established by the Polish Parliament in 1966. It was awarded to all Polish military personnel who participated in the Battle of Berlin in 1945, including those who died in combat. It was administered by the Ministry of National Defence until the collapse of the communist regime in 1989 and was officially discontinued in 1992.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "For Participation in the Battle of Berlin," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Ministry of National Defense, People's Republic of Poland."
