The Medal for Victory and Freedom was established by the State National Council in 1945. It was awarded to all Polish military personnel and civilians who participated in the fight against German forces during the Second World War, as well as to all foreigners who fought alongside Polish Forces. It was permanently discontinued in 1992 following the collapse of the communist regime.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "State National Council," and a reverse inscription translates to "Victory and Freedom."
