History

The Warsaw Uprising Cross was established in 1981. It was awarded to the armed combatants of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, as well as to members of the Women's Auxiliary Service, nurses and medics, and all others (including foreigners) who participated in the Uprising. It was also awarded posthumously. It was administered by the Council of State until 1989 and then by the President of the Republic of Poland before it was officially discontinued in 1999.

The Silver Cross features a reverse inscription that translates to "For the Insurgents of Warsaw." The obverse features the symbol of the Home Army with initials that stand for "Polska Walczaca" (Fighting Poland).
