Some sources suggest that the title of Meritorious Teacher of the Polish People's Republic was conferred by the new government between 1990 and 1992 with a crowned eagle and altered inscription, although no examples have been encountered.

History

The honorary title of Meritorious Teacher of the Polish People's Republic was established by the Council of State in 1955. It was permanently discontinued in 1992 following the collapse of the communist regime.

It was conferred upon Polish teachers for meritorious service. Recognised merits included long and faithful service, contributions to teaching methods, contributions to physical education in schools, the attentive development of interests and talents of youth, and the promotion of reading and education. Recipients were entitled to a monetary award in the form of a pension increase.

The Badge features initials on the obverse that stand for "Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa" (Polish People's Republic) and an additional inscription that translates to "Meritorious Teacher."
