History

The Volunteer War Medal was established in 1939, although it was never awarded due to the outbreak of the Second World War. It was intended for those volunteers who did not qualify for the War Volunteer Cross, but who served for a minimum of 1 month in a military or paramilitary organisations.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "War Volunteer.”

Some medals were manufactured, but it is unknown how many, and if they survived the war.
