History

The Decoration for Customs Merit was established by the Republic of Poland in 1999 as a replacement for the Medal of Merit for the Customs Service that was awarded in the Polish People’s Republic. It was later amended in 2010 and is currently awarded by the Minister of Finances to members of the Polish Customs Service in recognition of meritorious service.

The Decoration for Merit in Customs Service is classified into two types based on differences in the awarding statutes and design. Type I decorations were awarded in a single grade and have screwback fasteners, while Type II decorations are awarded in three grades and worn on ribbons.

The Type II II Class Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Merit to the Customs Service."
