History

The Decoration for Merit in Transportation was established by the Council of Ministers in 1997 as a replacement for the Decoration for Merit in the Transportation Industry that was awarded in the Polish People's Republic. It is awarded by the Minister of Transport, Construction, and Maritime Economy to Polish transportation workers for meritorious service, as well to foreigners in recognition of meritorious contributions to transportation in Poland and international cooperation in the industry.

The Silver Decoration features initials on the obverse that stand for "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Republic of Poland) with an additional inscription that can be translated to "For Merit in Transportation." The reverse inscription translates to "Republic of Poland."
