History

The Decoration for Sport Merit was established by the Minister of National Education and Sport in 2003 and is administered by the Minister of Sport and Tourism. It is awarded to athletic coaches, distinguished athletes, and other Polish citizens in recognition of sport science research and the promotion of physical activity.

Since 2012, the Decoration for Sport Merit has been awarded in recognition of long service.
