History

The Navy Cross of Merit was established by the Republic of Poland in 2007. It is awarded to members of the Polish Navy in recognition of exceptional service beyond the call of duty. It may also be awarded with swords in recognition of meritorious service during peacekeeping missions, or combat missions at home or abroad. The Cross may be awarded to the same recipient up to two times, in which case the second award is denoted by a bar ribbon clasp.

The Silver Cross features a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Poland, To Her Defender."
