The Order of the Military Cross was established by the Republic of Poland in 2006. It is conferred in recognition of bravery and sacrifice while fighting terrorism in Poland, or abroad during foreign deployments of the Armed Forces in peacetime.

The Grand Cross is conferred upon military Commanders for acts of bravery in combination with skilful leadership in combat.

The Grand Cross features a reverse inscription that translates to "Soldier for the Homeland."
