History

On January 24, 1919, all Allied countries agreed to manufacture a “Victory Medal” for the Great War. The medals were required to be made of bronze, 36 mm in diameter, suspended from a double rainbow ribbon, and depict the symbol of Victory with the inscription “The Great War for Civilisation.”

The Romanian WWI Victory Medal was awarded to all Romanian military personnel who served in the First World War and immediately after, from August 28, 1916, to March 31, 1921. Approximately 300000 were awarded in total.

There are additional versions of the Bronze Medal that differ in suspension, stamping, and engraving.
