The Commemorative Cross for the Resistance Against Communism was established in 2000. It is awarded to Romanian citizens who fought against the communist regime from 1947-1989, and those who were imprisoned or deported during this period for political, ethnic, or religious reasons.
The I Class Medal is awarded to political prisoners who were imprisoned for more than 12 years, and to those who were repeatedly imprisoned. It is also awarded posthumously to all those who died during imprisonment, to those who died following their release as a direct result of imprisonment, to those who died in an armed conflict against communist forces, and to those who were executed by the communist regime.
The I Class Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Commemorative Cross for the Anti-Communist Resistance," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Resistance Through Faith."
