History

The Order of Agricultural Merit was established by King Carol II in 1932 but was suppressed in 1947 after the abolition of the Romanian monarchy. It was reinstated in 2000 following the collapse of the communist regime and is currently conferred upon Romanian citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious service in the field of agriculture.

There was a limit of 50 members in the Grand Officer grade from 1932-1947, and there is a current limit of 200 members.

There are three versions of the Grand Officer. The first features the monogram of King Carol II and the second features the monogram of King Mihai I. The third version features the national crest of Romania and a reverse inscription that translates to “Agricultural Merit.”

The Grand Officer is identical to the Commander, however, only the Grand Officer is worn with a Breast Star.

The earlier versions are listed in the Orders of the Kingdom of Romania (1881-1947). See also the Medal of Agricultural Merit in the Medals & Decorations of the Kingdom of Romania (1881-1947) and Romania (1990-) for the medal that was created alongside this Order.
