History

The Order of Maritime Virtue was established in 2000. It is conferred upon Romanian citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious service at sea. It is awarded in two divisions, and it may also be awarded with crossed swords for wartime merit.

Membership in the Grand Officer grade is limited to 8 members in the Civil Division and 12 members in the Military Division in peacetime. There are no conferral limits during periods of war.

The Grand Officer is identical to the Commander, however, only the Grand Officer is worn with a Breast Star.

The Grand Officer (Military Division) features a wreath around the anchor, and the Grand Officer (wartime) features a wreath around the anchor with additional crossed swords. All three versions feature an obverse inscription translates to “Maritime Virtue.”
