History

"The Order of Military Virtue was established in 2000 and was based on the Medal of Military Virtue that was established by Alexander Ioan Cuza in 1860. It is conferred upon Romanian citizens and foreigners in recognition of military merit. It is awarded in two divisions, and it may also be awarded with crossed swords for wartime merit.

Membership in the Commander grade is limited to 150 members in the Civil Division and 600 members in the Military Division in peacetime. There are no conferral limits during periods of war.

The Commander is identical to the Grand Officer, however, only the Grand Officer is worn with a Breast Star.

The Commander (Military Division) features a wreath between the arms of the cross, and the Commander (wartime) features a wreath and crossed swords between the arms of the cross. All three versions feature an obverse inscription translates to “Military Virtue.”
