History

The Medal for Service to the Socialist Homeland was primarily awarded to members of the Department of the Interior and the National Security Service in recognition of meritorious service. It was permanently discontinued following the collapse of the Socialist Republic in 1989.

There are two versions of the II Class Medal that differ in inscription. The first features the initials of the Romanian People's Republic and the second features the initials of the Socialist Republic of Romania. Both versions have a reverse inscription that translates to "Service to the Socialist Homeland."
