History
The Order for Special Merit in the Defence of the State and Social Order was conferred upon Romanian civilians and military personnel in the state security forces in recognition of contributions to social order, the preservation of socialism, and the defence of the state. It was permanently suppressed following the collapse of the Socialist Republic in 1989.
Recipients of the I Class Breast Star were granted a monetary award of 2000 lei (500 USD) and four additional days of paid leave.
There are three different models of the I Class Breast Star. The first two are in the form of a star, while the third is in the form of a rayed shield. The first model has “RPR” in the crest, the second model has “RSR,” and the third model has an inscription that translates to "Romanian Socialist Republic." There may be additional versions that differ in composition.
