History

The Medal was established to reward civilians and military personnel who participated in the relief and rescue efforts of individuals affected by the 1980 earthquake in Irpinia and Basilicata. Requirements of the Medal include five days of service from November 23, 1980, to November 30, 1980, or 10 days of service up to December 15, 1980, or 20 days of service up to January 31, 1981, or 30 days of service from January 31, 1981.
