History

This Cross is associated with the Cross of Merit of the Italian Red Cross, ITA279, which was instituted during the Kingdom of Italy.

The modern Cross continues to be to conferred upon Italian Red Cross personnel for rendering meritorious service in wartime and peacetime. It features a surmounting mural crown, and has the emblem of the Italian Republic on the reverse medallion.
