History

This Star is a re-instituted award that is linked to the Star of Work Merit, ITA293, which was originally established by King Victor Emmanuel III in 1923. The modern Star is conferred upon Italian labourers, even those abroad, who have distinguished themselves via honourable work within a single company for a minimum of 25 years, or within multiple companies for a minimum of 30 years.

Since 1992, candidates are required to hold a minimum age of 50.

The stars awarded to Italians working abroad feature the reverse inscription “MERITO DEL LAVORO ALL’ESTERO,” while the regular stars for recipients within Italy feature the reverse inscription “AL MERITO DEL LAVORO 1924.”
