History

This Medal was conferred upon the Italian and Germany military personnel who had rendered service during the North Africa Campaign from 1940-1943, but the Medal was never officially recognized by the Italian government.

The Medal was engraved by Robert De Marchis, and his name is stamped on the medal "DE MARCHIS."

There are post-war examples of this Medal, wherein the swastika and the fasces on the obverse medallion have been removed.

The medals were initially composed of pure Bronze, but due to the shortage of metals during the later period of World War II there are many examples of medals composed of war materials, such as Zinc.
