History

The Cross was instituted to reward all members of the Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (MVSN) for 10 years of long and faithful service.

The ribbon may be decorated with several clasps denoting specific types of service.

A two dagger clasps reading "BATAGLIONI CAM. NERE" was added to the ribbon of recipients who had also served for 5 years within a MVSN battalion.

From 1938 onward, a bronze gladius clasp was added to the ribbon of MVSN members who had served in the Italian East Africa Campaign.

While from 1943 onward, a red gladius clasp was added to the ribbon of recipient who had rendered 20 years of service.
