This Medal was instituted by Victor Amadeus III, King of Sardinia, and it was conferred upon members of the King's Dragoon Regiment in recognition of gallant and meritorious service on April 21, 1796 against the French and Gioacchino Murat.

The obverse and reverse design of this medal mirror the Medal for Valour that was awarded during the reign of Victor Amadeus III, King of Sardinia.
