History

This Order was founded by Vincent Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua, and it commemorates and honours the marriage of Princess Marguerite, the daughter of Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy, to his son Francis. The Order is also known as the Precious Blood of Our Saviour.

Despite one revival attempt in 1847, the Order faded into obscurity in 1708 after the death of Ferdinando Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua.

The medallion is said to feature the image of two angels in adoration.
