Physical Description

A circular medal, the obverse bears a central ribbed cross within a border with rampant lions and castle towers, within a border inscribed with A LOS HEROICOS DEFENSORES DE ALMERIA, the reverse bears the image of a ship at sea with a fortress in the background, with the inscription BOMBARDEO POR LAS FRAGATAS VITORIA Y ALMANSA 30 DE JULIO DE 1873, with loop for suspension on a blue ribbon with two red stripes.

History

The Medal for the Defence of Almería was conferred upon the forces involved in defending the town of Almeria from the attacks of rebel vessels.
