An ovular medal constructed of silver, the obverse bears the image of two columns topped with crowns with two circles in the center, encompassed by a border inscribed with ESPANA A SUS LEALES HIJOS LOS VOLUNTARIOS FILIPINOS, the reverse bears the inscription 1897 VOLUNTARIOS MOVILIZADOS POR DECRETO DE 16 DE OCTUBRE, with a loop for suspension, on a red and yellow striped ribbon.

History


The Medal for Philippines Volunteers was established by Royal Decree on January 28, 1898 to commemorate the formation of 30 companies of indigenous volunteers during the Philippines Campaign.
