Physical Description


A shield shaped medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears the bust of Alfonso XIII as a child with the inscription ALFONSO XIII / AL EJERCITO DE FILIPINAS, the reverse bears the inscription VALOR DISCIPLINA LEALTAD 1896-1898, topped with a laurel wreath on a horizontally elongated suspension, with a red and yellow striped ribbon.

History


The Philippines Campaign Medal was established on October 7, 1895. It was established to commemorate the performance of the members of the Spanish Army and Navy in the Philippines Campaign.

The medal could be awarded with clasps:

"JOLO"
