Physical Description


A Maria Theresa cross constructed of gold and enamels, with a green enamel laurel wreath in the quadrants between the arms, the obverse center is of blue enamel with the cipher C7, encompassed by a border of white enamel with the inscription RESTAURACION CATOLICO MONARQUICA, the arms are inscribed with DIOS PATRIA REY 1874, the reverse center bears the coat of arms of Spain, encompassed by a white enamel border with the inscription CARLOS VIII POR LA GRACIA DE DIOS REY DE LAS ESPANAS, the arms are inscribed with VIRTUD ABNEGACION TALENTO LEALTAD, with a crown suspension, on a red and green striped ribbon.

The Carlist Cross of Merit of Don Carlos was established on October 9, 1874 to commemorate the services of the North, Catalonia and Center armies during the war.
