History

The Commemorative Medal for the Defense of Callao was authorised by the Spanish Crown to reward the royal military personnel who defended the port of Callao against an Argentine revolutionary army in 1819.

The Medal was struck in Peru, and it was authorised in a single grade, Silver Medal.

Some version feature a fancy loop at top to be awarded as a medal.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Reward to the Loyalty and Courage," and a reverse inscription that translates to "The Defense of Callao on March and October, 1819."
