The Cross for Joló was established in Spain by Royal Decree on August 15, 1851. It was awarded to the members of the expedition, coordinated by the Governor of Zanbaya, against Arab pirates who ravaged the Archipelago Joló in 1851.
The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "To the Philippine Expeditionary Army, Jolo 1851."
