The Cross for Torata was instituted by the Spanish Kingdom to reward the Peruvian royal forces who defeated the Chilean and Peruvian revolutionary troops at the Battle of Torata on January 19, 1823.
The Cross was conferred upon military personnel who belonged to the Battalions Gerona, Coronel Baldomero, and Espartero, among other military units.
The Cross features two different inscriptions.
