History

The Medal for the Spanish Constitution of 1812 was authorized in Spain by the Court of Cádiz in a secret meeting of 3rd of June, 1812. It was founded in commemoration of the promulgation of the first Spanish Constitution in 1812. This Constitution was drafted by the Court of Cádiz while the French army attacked the port of Cádiz in 1812 during the Peninsular War.

The Medal was authorized with three grades, i.e., Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Bronze Medal. The Gold and Silver Medals were conferred upon the members of the Court of Cádiz, while the Bronze Medal was conferred upon the members of the Generals and Extraordinary Courts in Spain.

There were manufactured 16 Gold Medals, 462 Silver Medals, and 424 Bronze Medals, in total.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that could be translated to "By the Grace of God and the Constancy of the Monarchy, Ferdinand VII King of the Spain and Indias," and a reverse inscription that could be translated to "Constitution of the Spanish Monarchy Promulgated in Cádiz in 1812."
