The Medal of Merit against the Bandits was instituted in Spain by Royal Decree of 6th of May, 1817. It was founded in recognition of the Major of Villa de Escatron, and local forces who participated in the capture and neutralization of a large band of thieves in Zaragoza.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Courage Against the Bandits," and it has plain reverse.
