History


The Cross for Chiva was established by the regency of Baldomero Espartero on November 30, 1840. It was conferred upon the National Militia of Valencia that joined the army of Maria Christina at the battle of Chiva on April 2, 1836.

The Cross was authorized with two grades. The Gold Cross was awarded to Generals and Officials, while the Bronze Cross was awarded to enlisted men.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "Chiva, 2nd of April ," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Patriotism."
