History


The Cross for Military Health was instituted by Queen Isabel II of Spain on October 17, 1853. It was awarded to the Chiefs and Officers of the Military Health Corps in recognition of the merits and achievements within the sciences and technical information into the health area.

It is believed this Cross was abolished when the Order Of Military Merit was instituted in 1864. This information is not confirmed.

The ribbon colors include:

Red for surgery
Yellow for medicine
Purple stripes for pharmacy

The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates "Military Health," and a reverse inscription that translates "To Enhance the Science."
