History


The Medal for the Battle of Chiva was instituted in Spain by the regency of Maria Christina on August 31, 1837. It was conferred upon the members of both the Center Army and the North Army, which defeated Carlists forces at the Battle of Chiva on July 15, 1837.

The Medal was authorized with two grades, The Gold Medal was conferred upon Generals and Officials, while the Bronze Medal was awarded to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Battle of Chiva July 15, 1837, Discipline and Valor defeat to Force."
