History


The Medal for the Defenders of Vergara was authorized in Spain by the Regency of Maria Christina on October 3, 1834. It was conferred upon those women who defended the city of Vergara against Carlists troops attacks on September 5, 1834.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "To the Valor of the Women of Vergara, Queen Governor."
