History

The Ayohuma Medal was authorised by the Viceroyalty government of Potosí, in recognition of General Joaquin de la Pezuela and his troops who defeated Bolivian and Argentinian troops leaded by the General Manuel Belgrano in the Battle of Ayohuma on November 14, 1813.

The Medal had two categories, Gold and Silver. The Gold Medal was awarded to the highest rank of the army, and Silver Medal was awarded to enlisted men.

There are three main versions of the Gold Medal. The Gold Medal with surmounting crown was awarded to the Viceroy. The Gold Meal with surmounting oak branches was awarded to Generals. The Gold Medal was awarded to Commanders and Officers.

This Medal features an obverse inscription that stands to "Recuperó las Provincias de Potosí y Charcas en la Batalla de Ayohuma 14 de Noviembre de 1813," and can be translate to "They Recovered the Potosí and Charcas Provinces in the Battle of Ayohuma November 14, 1813."
