History


The Medal for Tarancón was authorized in Spain by Royal Decree of June 10, 1815. It was awarded to the forces of General Don Francisco Xavier de Venegas who defeated the French army in Tarancón on December 25, 1808.

The composition of this Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was awarded to Chiefs and Officers, the Silver Medal was awarded to Sergeants, while the Bronze Medal was for Soldiers and privates.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Invincible Infantry At Tarancón on December 25, 1808."
