The Vigo Centennial Medal 1809-1909 was authorised in Spain by Royal Decree of 2nd of August, 1914. It was founded in commemoration of the first centennial of the Battle of Vigo of 28th of March, 1809 at the Peninsular War. It was awarded to the heirs of the combatants, and to those who attended the commemorations of this battle.
The Medal was authorised in three categories, i.e., Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Bronze Medal; but it is not clear if the composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipients.
The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "First Centennial of the Spanish Independence," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Reconquest of the Loyal, Faithful and Brave City of Vigo March 26, 1809."
