This medal was instituted by Emperor Franz Joseph I to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Austrian Emperor.

The medal was awarded to Officers and enlisted men within the Austrian Landstorm in recognition of long service.

The Medal (for 25 years) does not feature a surmounting two-headed eagle.
