History


This medal was founded by Emperor Franz II to commemorate all the volunteers who mobilized against Napoleon and the French in 1798.

The medal was conferred upon these volunteers from Lower Austria that formed free "Landesstande" corps following the declaration of national emergency in 1797 by the president of Lower Austria, Count Saurau.

The Large Silver Medal was conferred upon Officers for participation in the campaign against Napoleon.
