This medal was a replacement award given to common, non-noble, soldiers in Lombardy and Venetia who were members of Napoleon I's Order of the Iron Crown, but were not eligible recipients of the Imperial Austrian Order of the Iron Crown following Austria's reclamation of those regions in 1814.
